Am I Missing Something.....????

I don't get it, am I missing something??? The stock market goes down between 800 and 900 points in two days, oil is near $40.00 a barrel, China devalues they currency, and no one is even talking about it. Fox News Channel all they talk about is how Hillary Clinton is screwed. The liberal media is now talking about her.

One of my sons is worried about North and South Korea going to war?? Have we gotten so use to the doom and gloom from the so called experts (insert any name) and its just passed off like a bad dream.??

WHAT AM I MISSING????

I know several folks are heavy into pepping, food, guns, ammo, etc, etc. I see the market go down 530 points yesterday I'm worried sick, how I slept last night I don't know. Many companies around are hiring and have been almost all summer. But somehow MN lost 6,000 jobs. Where??? We are getting a new Shopco store here, a new dental office in Hutchinson and Goodwill is building new stores all over the place. The owners of the MN Vikings are buying 185 acres to build a new team headquarters, and I struggle to pay may day to day expenses, no long term debt.....Folks are buying homes and cars, etc.

WHAT AM I MISSING????

And I wonder why I'm on anti depression medication, and high blood pressure pills.

I think I need to go lay down and try to relax.................

I thought the news upset you so much you refused to pay attention to it anymore? At least that was my take away from several posts you have made over the last year or so. Not trying to be an ass pointing that out BTW I know it looks much harsher in text, just saying.

North and South Korea have had much worse flare ups recently. Remember the shelling last year that killed people on the island or the sinking of that mine sweeper ship by the N. Korean sub? It's what they do every few months and neither China nor the US is going to let it get out of control.

Yes companies are hiring all over. Nothing but low end, low paying jobs in the scheme of things that honestly do next to nothing to help the economy. Besides what the companies report to be hiring and what they actually do are usually quite different numbers I have noticed. Many of them hire 20 in one department while letting 30 go in another too.

Chain stores open up new all the time but they typically close soem old ones somewhere else as well while doing so and any building going on by an industry so heavily helped along like pro sports teams or large schools means nothing since it really isn't growth but theft from one segment to another.

Don't make the mistake of interpreting resource shifting as growth. which is about all we been seeing for years now truth be told.

Rob, here is how "I" look at it. There is NOTHING you personally can do about any of it other than keep yourself and family and friends aware of what is going on and prepare for bad times. You can't change the direction we are headed. None of us can. All we can do is prepare. Don't get depressed or let your blood pressure rise. It's not worth your health. Try and enjoy your life and the hell with all the crap that's going on. Just my two cents as to how I try and view it.

I used to pride myself keeping up with current events, but these days I don't think I give a flying fig anymore. Lies, lies and more lies. I think America as a whole is tired too. Unless something happens out of control of us everyday American's I think Trump will become the next President. Why?? American is sick and tired of all the crap.

I know there is growth and then I feel stupidity. Someone with deep pockets has to be helping Goodwill build all these buildings. I have seen more built in the Metro area since 2007 when we moved south. 3 built in the last 18 mos that I know of.

The places that are hiring around here are because they need folks. The cannery is short staffed as the suck and have new owners. I have seen signs posted now hiring.

Irish, I hear you. I have been working on my preps. I know i'm farther along then the average joe and jane doe..I don't think I will ever be as prepped as most of some folks I can handle that. yes I have some food stocked but I know what I need to add. We have no weapon's, buts as much as we need some I can't afford them. So I need to move on.

There's nothing wrong with you. You are on top of everything, the way I see it. Yep, the stock market took a tumble, and we knew it would happen eventually. Next week could be a real eye opener for the country, and they will stop ignoring it. Yep, North Korea has always been a bully. They frequently threaten to push the button, but they don't want to die either. You keep doing what you're doing. If this is the beginning of the end, so be it. Folks like you and I will not go out in the first round.

There is so much crap going on that sometimes I have to do a silly post like about the acquisition of a new kitchen gadget just to keep my head from exploding. You can't change it. I can't change it. All we can do is is what Irish said. Just keep on doing whatever we can do to be prepared. Don't go thinking that because someone else has more preps than you do, that you have to catch up. Each of us has a different situation and we do what we can accordingly. If we buy only one bag of rice this week, that is one more item in food storage than Joe Blow down the street has because it is more important to him to have the latest phone or a bigger TV. Your family will eat. His family will starve watching his big TV. It is all about priorities and yours are spot on.

Rob, just focus on what you need to do to prepare. Don't get to caught up in comparing yourself to Preppy, Harry, or Kymber and a few other bloggers that you keep up with. These are exceptional cases ( people with exceptional circumstances), that 95% of us can't hope to match.

As far as the news goes, if you watched fox business like I do, they cover almost nothing but the market yesterday. As far as, Korea,..... Well they aren't saying anything about Isreal and Syria (backed by Iran) taking shots at each other this week either. Fox ain't like it used to be. They've been compromised.

Ya know that's some good advice Matt. I try to point out occasionally that my circumstances are anything but normal. I was literally born into a lot of the resources I count on. I didn't get some yuppy type inheritance with some trust fund but I did get land that had been in the family, a tractor and some implements, mowers and tools out the wahzoo and it does make a difference. If I actually had to buy all the resources I started off with I would still be working overtime to pay for it and wouldn't have time to blog let alone get all the stuff done I do.

I try and point that out but often fail to bring it up often enough.

You are seeing seasonal hiring though Rob. After the crunch is over the various supervisors and managers make it their primary duty to ride the employees so hard they quit and then when it gets busy again the cycle starts over. That kind of thing does almost nothing for the economy. Believe me I seen it and lived through it for years. They re all smiles and party favors until those at the top start riding their asses about payroll being too high then it's daily rule changes and new ways to put the twist on the employees.

As far as goodwill goes they are more than likely tax exempt and probably got land donated to them as a write off from someone else. You have to look deep and realize those who look like they are winning almost always have government help to do so.

PP I understand. I too have been through it. When I worked I would keep my mouth shut, eyes and ears open. I spent time at several airlines and Disney World which I learned alot.

I just get so flustered with all the doom and gloom. i have stopped following some bloggers because of such crap. When you have 600 or more followers, you don't reply to any posts. By the way thanks for stopping by I will check out your blog.

Thanks Vicki, sometimes i forget. While I wish i had a bigger place, I am happy to at lest have a roof over my head. i would like to be in a bigger place so I have a place to hide away (basement) from the stress of family, and the outside world. Man cave or bunker. LOL.

Matt, I understand NK is run by a saber rattling little whiner. Some day maybe China will grow tired of him and they take him out. I never try and compare my self to the super bloggers or should I say preppers..LOL. All I ask for in life is food, shelter, and that's what I have. A mobile home is not the greatest in the world, but we are warm in the winter, well compared to outside. LOL. PP I understand your situation, we folks have 5 ac. up north on a river feed lake. plenty of woods around it, with a small mobile home. I always thought i would end up with it after my folks passed. But my dad through a curve ball and put it up for sale. i would have been the best place to have. I know I can never buy it, but hope it never sales.

To all that replied thanks for your kind words and butt kicking i needed that. i guess I need to change my focus just a bit. I used to watch the news every night both local and national, but now I find myself not watching as much. i need to be better with time management, being retired I have fallen into a rut. sleep in late and just don't do what I need to do around the place. i will work harder and not be such a whinny baby, oh my god I'm turning into a Liberal......LOL

Rob, I know exactly how you feel, same thing is happening down here. Trouble is we can do nothing about the current ‘Gone Rogue’ Congress, Supreme Court, President, Czars and all the alphabet FDA, VA, EPA etc etc division leaders. All we can do is sit back and watch them implode and hopefully all go to jail. Yes, I think some will go to jail this time because they are so open, so incompetent, so blatantly in your face about what they do illegally.
I recommend we focus on family health and diet, it is something you can do and quickly see the results like blood pressure going down and overall feeling better about yourself. Cheers!

Rob buddy - i hate to hear the frustration in your voice! none of us can do it all and do it all of the time! you have gotten your family to what sounds like a very safe place...and your boys are employed. and that's all that matters right now. none of us are "experts" except for the so-called experts! all that we can do is try our best and you are doing that!

i am sending much love. your friend,
kymber

Matt is exactly right about not trying to compare yourself with others - each of us can only do what we can only do! the mere fact that each of us is trying our best should help us all try to reach our goals of being able to take care of our families! we don't have what Harry or PP have - but like you Rob, buddy - we feel that we are in a safe place and that in my mind is goal number one! don't make comparisons - just do what you can. and stay away from the news - all it is doing is upsetting you! and you know that you have friends in far-away places (me and jam) to talk to if you ever need to! sending much love! xox

All of us are worried, but you have to keep things in perspective and not let it get you all wound up.

Thanks Mike, I have cut back on watching live news and just skim the headlines online, and not read it all. I stopped buying the newspaper years ago.

kymber, I know better then to let this crap get to me. That is one reason I'm in CAP, keeps me busy with other stuff. Plus its like going to college with the classes and courses i take.

Rob said...

I know harry, I shouldn't watch any of the news. Thanks for stopping by and setting me straight again.

I understand what you and everyone else is saying. Everyone has different goals These experts are only experts in their own minds. Even some web pages are saying one thing and then in the next paragraph state the opposite.
