Looks ugly for us in the upper Midwest and Minnesota. Time to dig out the heavy clothes. Wrap the house up for the cold. Wrap myself in every piece of clothing and blankets
We've had a few abnormally cool fronts this August. The temperature didn't change much, but the lower humidity left morning temperatures 8 to 10 degrees lower. With near drought conditions, and diminishing daylight hours, some trees are already dropping leaves.
The Gulf of Mexico has had numerous showers for the last few days along the coast, which cools the water. Since the Gulf has a strong effect on temperatures, early cooling will affect the coming months.
If I had to guess, I'd say this winter will be colder than average. I might be wrong, but I'll be watching for the geese. An early return will signal early cooling to the North, and the possibility of a longer spell of cold.
So far, there hasn't been any threats, but a tropical wave in the Caribbean is supposed to move into the Gulf next week. The NHC doesn't know what the conditions will be, so they're not venturing any development at this time.
Harvey was a weak tropical system, when it dropped five feet of water last year. The torrential rain in the bands wouldn't end, and the bands of rain moved very slow. After three days of these conditions, there was too much water for any drainage system to handle.
I lived in Chicago for almost 40 years and never got used to the cold and snow. Moving to Florida in '85' was one of the best things I ever did. I don't know how you sotans live with the cold and snow.
bottom line, its better to put on every piece of clothing to stay warm, then strip to you birthday suite to stay cool..We struggled the whole 6 years in Florida, My oldest stayed 10 years, it was hard for him too. Since we returned home things have gotten better for all of us. We own a home, have 2 working cars. My kids all work, While some may see misfortune, we have found happiness.
Our dear friends north of us were 33F the other morning.... we were at 38F. I didn't like the heat but I sure ain't ready for fall! I'm praying for an Indian Summer to save what's left of the garden.
Hope you aren't really going to get what is predicted. A 'normal' winter would suit us all just fine, eh? :-)
Hobo, these days with all the climate change crying, what is normal any more.?? We dipped down to 44 the other morning. Didn't seem that cold due to humility hanging around. I noticed some fields starting to "dry' for harvest. Did they just plant them about a month ago??

we had late season snow, so early fall is not surprising at all.
Jess, storm season has been quite so far this year in the Gulf right??

We are so very happy to have moved back to MN, after 6 years in Florida. Missed out on all the major storms. Have a great weekend
