A Real Job Paying $14.00 Hr

Yes you read this right. A real job, working hard making $14.00 hr, and the company can't find enough people. In fact 22 folks have applied, been hired, started work, and quite. Why?? because its a dirty job. So now you ask what kind of job pays that kind of money and folks don't like it??

My youngest son Scott, is working at Forsman Farms just down the road from us, and what is Forsman Farms???
Well they are an egg producing farm. Its is so big they added 3 more barns in the last year and those chickens are laying eggs just for California. We are talking over 1 million birds total on the farm. My son Scott works overnight sanitation. He and others clean the production facility. They clean the equipment and packaging lines. Lots of eggs get broken and it all has to be cleaned up, that and some chicken poo too. The turn over is so high they pay a starting wage of $14. hr. If fact my other son Andrew who worked at the cannery here in town, and has started working at the same place, as a machine operator day shift, He is making $13 an hr. he loads empty egg cartons all day in a large machine. With the experience he has from the cannery, he is catching on fast and as already been shown how to do other jobs  dealing with paperwork.

At the cannery we where able to get canned goods at a low price. We still have canned goods stored, but not as much as we had before. We have not bought any canned veggies in the last year. So whet do we get from the farm?? Chickens?? No, we get 4 dozen fresh eggs every week or two. We currently have 8 dozen eggs in the fridge.  We use them up but not as fast now that the temps are up, as we don't have air conditioning in our house. Once cooler temps return, we will bake like the world is coming to an end...ooops it is right??

Well my fellow bloggers its time for me to turn in, its going to be just like Florida here tomorrow temps with heat index 105. I love winter so much now days. LOL. I may wash the mini van just to get wet.

Stay Safe and Remain Vigilant.....Rob

The best survival skill a person can have is an ability and attitude needed to work those jobs that most people will not do. Kudos to the boys. You brought em up right.

Thanks PP. all three of the boys work hard. The oldest daughter as the grandson and the youngest is still high school and is on the B honor roll. Everyone pitches in.

Ooooh, what better protein than eggs!! You know you can freeze them. Go to the thrift store or dollar store and purchase some plastic ice cube trays. Crack open and dump out an egg into each cube slot and freeze them. Once frozen, pop out the frozen egg cubes into a ziploc and toss back into the freezer. You'll have eggs for later use for cooking.

And just a quick note: If you like hard boiled eggs and those eggs are really fresh (like less than a week old) don't hard boil them right away. They won't peel very nice. Let a carton sit for a week or two and then hard boil. That's why most grocery store eggs peel real good - they are older eggs.

And I agree with what kymber & PP said above. You all have done good.

Thanks Hobo. We have low unemployment here in our small town. We have a woodworker looking for help paying $17.00 hr and another guy who makes custom canvas covers etc, he is looking for apprentice workers and I don't think he has found anyone. Plus we have a new Shopco coming here, and another Dollar General store 12 miles away.
