RyKrisp No More: ConAgra Will Close Minneapolis Cracker Factory

ConAgra foods is shutting a factory in Southeast Minneapolis that was the one and only maker of RyKrisps, a cracker that was invented in Minnesota a century ago.
The Pioneer Press reports on the move by Omaha, Neb.-based RyKrisp, which affect about 15 jobs. Some will retire; others may move to jobs at ConAgra's other Twin Cities facilities.
For RyKrisp, though, it's the end of the line. A company spokesman said ConAgra won't produce the crackers anymore, citing low demand.

The Minnesota Historical Society's been keeping track of the cracker's history, which dates back to 1904 (or thereabouts; there are a couple stories out there, apparently). It was the work of Scandinavian immigrant Arvid Peterson, who gave an American-sounding name to the Swedish-style hard cracker. It was bought by Ralston Purina Cos. of St. Louis and became a staple for dieters during the 1940s; ConAgra bought the cracker line, along with RalCorp., in 2012.

My wife and grew up eating RyKrisp. I thought they had ended production years ago. I may have to see if we can find some before there all gone. The cold has returned to MN the land of brown fields and no snow.

Stay Vigilant, and Warm.

I am so sorry to hear this. I love Ry-Krisp. For a short time you can still buy them (by the case) from Amazon by simply entering Ry-krisp.

I used to love those, but haven't seen any in years. That's a shame, but if they weren't selling ...

I always loved Ry Krisp. Con Agra is a shady company. They knew they would close Ry Krisp when they bought the company. Great tax advantage. They are on my list along with Monsanto and Dow.

They have been getting harder & harder to find in the stores. But not a surprising tactic from a mega farm company. Snap up the smaller business brands that have a good product and buy up their shelf space so you can sell your crap. It is a shame that Ry Krisp will no longer be produced.

It's a shame that the wealth of local and regional brands and items have to be the sacrifice of globalization. Also ironic that the left which claims diversity and all is the main driving force behind the loss with their one world ideology.

Oh well I have a feeling things are going to get back to normal one day.
