Is Photo Of Baby In Flag Patriotic or Disgraceful?

A photograph of a newborn being cradled in an American flag held by an unknown Navy sailor has triggered heated debate over whether the picture is patriotic or disgraceful.
Photographer Vanessa Hicks of Virginia Beach, Va. posted the photo to her Facebook page Sunday, telling CNN affiliate WKTR she believed it showed “what it means to be an American.”
But then another Facebook page appeared titled “You call yourself a photographer?” saying using the American flag that way was disrespectful and dishonored the military.

Hicks said she was “heartbroken” over the response but refused to back down, adding the parents of the baby were both current and former members of the military and that she had received requests from other military members for similar pictures.

Considering some out at UC Irvine want the flag removed as its racists, I find this an American being proud of his child. I side with the photographer, and the serviceman and his family.

Stay Safe, Remain Vigilant as many want to do us harm.

Both of them should have known better. It makes a strong statement with the baby but it should not have been done.

Not much outcry when thugs burn and stomp on our flag, though. That's freedom of expression nowadays. But a baby in the flag? Outrageous. Liberals make me sick.

I see people wearing shirts made from fabric to imitate our American flag. I see people wearing American flag bandannas. I see people in our country burning our flag to protest whatever it is they want to protest. That being said, I can't see how a photo that shows a father's love of his country and love of his child can be interpreted as disgraceful.

The thing we all take for grated is Freedom of Speech. He has a right to do this, and many others object. That is their opinion. i myself agree with the family, and see nothing wrong with this.

as a canadian - i feel like i shouldn't have a say in this. but being canadian, and canadians are people with opinions and who love their flag and nationality - i shall say:

our flags are the highest representatives of our countries! our flags are beautiful! our flags decorate coffins of soldiers being repatriated! our flags represent those that have served our countries! our flags represent living and dead soldiers! our flags are beautiful! even cuban and north korean people love their flags, as they should!

i find no problem with draping a baby in a flag of your country that you love and serve. that serving navy sailor has every right to drape his baby in his country's flag...and maybe if more of us felt this way about our flags...we could very early on teach our children what it means to be citizens of our countries! i strongly support this man's actions! he is probably raising another beautiful patriot who will stand and fight for our freedoms!

much love, Rob, buddy! your friend,
