Surviving Winter
Go ahead and laugh at this one, but its true. I told the wife all the folks with winter fun toys will be out tonight.
Well winter has returned here, Monday was a tease of a storm, maybe an 1" or 2". Driving was average to poor winter driving. I went back to CAP after our holiday break.
Today was different, we picked 2" to 4" additional overnight, blowing and drifting made Monday seem great driving conditions. The township roads had not been touched, driving wasn't too bad. US HWY 12 was nothing but ice. I had to take Hannah to the Dr over in Dassel 5 miles away. My top speed was 25 in a 55 zone. On the way back home a MNDOT plow was coming down 12 towards me, he was kicking up a blizzard as he was going east to west and the wind was out of the north.
As the plow got closer to me a took my foot off, the gas and off the brakes until the wind cleared the snow cloud. I was blind for a good 15 to 20 sec. As my friend calls it near clean boxer time. Oh yea, it was rough. The State is telling everyone this am, if you can stay home do so. Our school didn't close early yesterday much to the surprise to many parents. All after school activities were cancelled.
Anyone who has a pick up with a plow was running around digging everyone out. I think we are getting more snow in the am. I say bring it on. We have food, power for now, a oil camping lantern, I got for Christmas. Plus blankets to pile on and extra clothes. Like I've said before I will put on every piece of clothes to stay warm, vs taking everything off, down to my birthday to stay cool.
I'll update in the am. Stay Safe, Warm, and drink lots of coffee to warm up......Rob

Your snowfall chart is true. Funny...but true! I ordered a pizza last week. The pizza delivery guy was wearing shorts. It was below zero outside. Told him he was gonna freeze his knees. Said he didn't care. He would wear shorts until it got cold out. True story. :)
I hear the weather is going to get ugly. Be careful...stay warm!
I have seen some kids at the high school come out shorts of even no coat. Yes the future leaders of America. Hope all is well.
I know one young woman here who wears shorts & flip-flops year 'round, even with a parka in the winter, regardless of snow depth. We're supposed to have a week of -15 and -17 overnights, with highs near zero, starting this weekend. And maybe another 3" to 5" of snow, too. I might have to get out a jacket, instead of a vest.
Same here bitter cold temps again. Oh well after all it is winter. stay warm padre.
The chart is fun and so true. Reminds me of when I lived outside Chicago, there was never a weather reason to miss work or school!
Hope you don't lose power so you can stay comfortable. Are you expecting high winds with the sub-zero temps?
Add Boise and the cities around it to the Portland side of the list.
Around here the only winter 'fun' toys of choice are snow shovels... (except for Mr H, he gets to drive the backhoe and that's not really fun on slippery snow/ice).
Glad that you're ready for it all. We're suppose to get some days of sunshine but it will bring cold temps back and.... get this.... more snow! Unbelievable. ;^)
I learn many moons ago to watch radar, and see what's coming. Tonight I saw snow moving east from North Dakota. But the guessers say no snow tonight, we shall see..
Mike not take I have heard of yet, but I stay away from the local media, as they get most facts wrong. My wife still does but has not said a word. Last night, not a cloud in the sky, and snow over night. Looking that way tonight no clouds...Wait an see....
Remember that "average" or what they now call "normal" is a compilation of the years of NO snow and LOTS of snow. Our "average" annual snowfall is about 23" and we currently are at about 60" at our house. It is not even January 15th. We have piles that are 8 to 10 feet in drifts in the trees and over some of our 6 foot fences. Our gravel road is one car wide with 4 to 6 or 7 foot piles on each side of the road, in places. That puts the "ground blizzard" at "windshield and roof of pickup blizzard" level. That is what I went to work in this morning. The wind was gusting to 37 mph at that time.
"They" are saying we may hit the 30's (above) next week. I won't believe it until I see it..... Redder
Ms redder, So nice to hear from you. We had blowing here yesterday, and some lite fluffy snow today. These weather folks can be so wrong in the winter. They use at lest 8 computer models, and still get it wrong. I don't even watch the locals anymore.
