Cadets from Minnesota Wing Civil Air Patrol had a volleyball tournament, followed by a lock in at St Cloud State University. This was held last Saturday March 2nd.Volleyball stated at 9AM with the lock in running from 6pm to 6 am. Just about every squadron in MN Wing attended. we had approx. 150 folks, both cadet and senior members (adults) My squadron had two teams go. Our B team won 2nd place. I was there for the lock in. (my squadron hosts the lock in every year.) Every year we have some interesting stories, but this year was quite. Last year a cadet brought a hammock, he tried to put it up all over the place. Finally we got so pissed off at him, we had to talk to his chaperones so they could tell him to knock it off.
We had all kids of food from pizzas, pop, water, cookies, chips, fruit. cup cakes. popcorn We had 45 pizzas. in 3 or 4 hours all the pizza was gone. By 130am all the water and pop was gone too. In the morning we gave them some pastry's and orange juice. The heat ventilation system shut off around 1230. Most years no big deal, but MN was blessed once again with -25 temps overnight and a -30 wind chill. Those of us who have been there in the past know to bring blankets, sweat shirts, and hooded sweat shirts. The cadets had use of the swimming pool, climbing wall, and we set up a movie room they choose movies from a list.
Here are some photos taken on Saturday
Mascot of SCSU Huskies |
The group in the middle is my cadets 18 strong |
SCSU had staff help with the wall and gear. The cadets love the wall. We all know who hates the wall |
I will more then likely help out again next year. We need to get more parents to be willing to help out. We had 11 SM from our unit doing all the lock In work. We have 25 SM on paper, but its always the same 11 of us that show up every year. I don't have any cadets of my own, But I am there for the cadets to help them learn leadership, and etc. Plus the kids make friends from our units.
Well, thats about it. Tomorrow is big shopping day. The forecast is for another 24" of snow over the next week. This is on top of the 24" we have already on the ground. Please GOD send us warmer temps like 40 will do for now.
