Storm Totals

Here in Cokato, we only picked up about a 1" of snow. Way down from the foot NWS thought we would get. If you look at the map, its says Twin Cities. That is the location of our International airport. They picked up 12.5" I used to work there for 25+ years. Delta Airlines alone canceled 425 flights. I used to work for Sun Country Airlines.

They (Sun Country) had flights divert all over. One flight from the Las Vegas area went to Dubuque Iowa. It was there for over 7 hrs. They also had a flight from Tampa divert to Duluth, and that flight stayed until Tuesday morning. That was due to what is known as "crew timing out". The pilots can only fly for 8 hrs. It is a 3 hr flight to Tampa, but it was over 4 hrs coming back, due to the storm.

The airport has 4 runways, but between how hard it was snowing, coupled up 35 mph winds, the airport had to close to inbound and outbound flights. When the snow plow crews did get 2 runways open, they had maybe 10 min window to get flights in and out before the runways needed to be cleared again. I was so glad I am retired. I do keep in touch with a couple of folks, I was texting them on and off all afternoon.

Of course, our temps are warming up again,. So any snow we have will melt away again. winter is nearing the finish line. I believe that the bitter below zero temps are done for this winter

Well, that is about it for now folks. Stay Safe, and warm.

Rob
