After 3 days of closed schools, reduced business hours, Minnesota has started to come out of our winter bunkers to access any damage. Today's temp was a high of 18, with little to no wind. My family and and I are all ok. No power or heat lost. No frozen pipes, no broken pipes. My son Drew is having frozen water pipes, but he thinks the problem is before water enters his place. Others have no water too.
While we came out ok, one of the other homes just up the hill didn't fair very well. Not sure of all the details but their home was lost due to a fire. Not sure if pipes froze and while thawing out the pipes they may have set the house on fire. The back part looks like it had the most damage, and someone sat on it. its all collapsed.
Not sure if anyone was hurt. We now have 2 burned out homes in our little community. On top of this we have an empty home that had water line brake. Needless to say we now have a lot of frozen ice covering a good part of our main road, mixed with snow its just a mess. The city can't plow too much all that they can do is dump straight rock salt and let the warmer temps help with the melting. The empty home has had a water leak for a few weeks, but we no longer have on site care taker. IMMHO if the park owner would have been willing to pay to cover all the hours put in by the caretakers, the line wouldn't have broken, and the house had the fire.
Our temps are set to approach 30 to 35 the next few days. Then more snow and cold temps., but not the bitter wind chills and super sub zero temps. I for one will be very happy to see temps in the 50's and 60's return.
Stay Warm everyone, winter is coming to an end. AS far has our elected officials, I'm at a loss for words. Nothing surprises me anymore. Looking around my community, the ice, and burned out homes is more important then weather Jack and Jill have health care or if Juan has family who are here with the right paperwork.
TAKE CARE ALL.....ROB
